At the close of the transfer window, it was announced that Khangarid FC had signed Nigerian striker Wasiu Abiodun Rafiu as one of several new additions to its squad. Now, MFC has learned that the player will not make the move to Mongolia at this time because of logistical difficulties.
Rafiu explained to MFC that he was scheduled to depart for Mongolia and sign his contract, but travel difficulties made it impossible for him to get to Mongolia to complete the paperwork by the close of the winter transfer window.
Wasiu, who admittedly loves to score goals, would have been a welcome addition to the club which currently sits winless and in last place entering the spring season. Khangarid FC, one of the most established clubs in the country, has not earned a single point from nine matches and has a -54 goal difference.
Wasiu currently plays for Zion Liberty FC of the Ibadan Football Association League (IFA League) in his homeland. Previously he has suited up for the academy and senior sides of Shooting Stars SC of the tier-1 Nigerian Professional Football League. Mongolia would not have been his first playing experience abroad as he has also played for AS Tonnerre in the Benin Premier League.
Will we ever see if Rafiu could be a success in Mongolia? We may, but it might not be soon enough for Khangarid as the MPL returns this sunday.
