Following a year of dormancy because of the COVID-19 pandemic, on 13 October the second season of the Mongolian Second Division concluded following the final matches of its playoff round with Ilch FC being crowned champions.

Following matchday 9, the top four clubs entered a playoff round to face each other one more time. Ilch FC and Erchim 2 were joined by Selenge FC and Bavarians, a club founded by fans of German club FC Bayern Munchen.

The final matchday saw the 1st and 2nd place teams battle each other. With Ilch FC unable to be caught, the club secured the championship with a 2-2 draw with Erchim. Both Ilch and Erchim B have earned the right to play in the 1st League next season.

Ilch FC earned its second straight promotion after finishing runners-up in the National Amateur Cup in 2020. Khad FC, the Amateur Cup champions last year, were not promoted. Interestingly, 2020 was also Ilch FC's first year of existence.

Khovd Western 2 , whose parent club fared very well in the latest 1st League season, finished in last place and, therefore, will have a spot in the National Amateur Cup next season if they wish.

Ilch FC's Mongolian striker M. Ganbaatar took home two individual honours as season MVP and top scorer with 17 goals. B. Tuguldur, the runners'-up Goalkeeper, was named the best at his position while bronze medalists Selenge FC was home to the best defender and midfielders, G. Bayarbaatar and B. Bayarzorig, respectively.
