Erchim FC Gets New Partner, Name

It was the same old result for Erchim FC as the club defeated Ulaanbaatar City FC to win the 2020 Super Cup and kick off the new season. Although Erchim's result was identical to 7 of the last 8 Super Cup matches, the club itself was not. This year, the club has a new sponsor/investor, name, and crest, as it begins its new life as Khaan Khuns-Erchim FC.

Erchim FC, famously owned by and playing in the shadow of Ulaanbaatar Power Plant #4, brought on Khaan Khuns as a major investor in the offseason. Khaan Khuns is a major grocery chain in the country.

As a result of the investment, Erchim FC has become Khaan Khuns-Erchim FC.

The Khaan Khuns brand should be familiar to fans of Mongolian football. For the past few seasons, a club named Khaan Khuns Titem FC competed in the First League before finally cracking into the Premier League in 2019.

After a dismal season which saw the club earn only 1 point from 18 matches during the regular season, the club was scheduled to retake its place in the second tier this year. However, it now seems that Khaan Khuns has put its full weight behind Erchim FC.

When the First League teams for the 2020 season were finally announced, Khaan Khuns Titem FC is nowhere to be found, not even in the third division, the 2nd-year Second League. Such an occurrence is not unusual in Mongolian football as teams come and go as the funds or other requisites come and go also.

It may not be the the last we see of the club known as Khaan Khuns Titem, albeit with a different name, however. In fact, the club has played under at least four monikers and resurrected multiple times since it was founded in 2008.
