GK Mauro Boerchio Leaves UB City. Club Pursuing Austin Rogers?
Earlier this month a lone source emerged stating that FC Ulaanbaatar goalkeeper and 2017 Goalkeeper of the Year Austin Rogers had signed for rivals Ulaanbaatar City FC.
When MFC reached out to the player for comment he was noncommittal, stating simply that, "(It's) just rumors unless the club announces..."
When pressed on whether the club has been in contact with him, he gave the evasive answer that the new foreign player rule will have a big effect on team's plans moving forward.
It would be no surprise if Ulaanbaatar City, a club with big aspirations, was hunting the player. In 2017 he was ranked first in the league in total saves with 110. He was also fourth in the league in save percentage with a 78.0% on way to the Goalkeeper of the Year award. Rogers played a large role in saving the club which finished barely out of the relegation zone.
UB City should be very familiar with Rogers as he was in net for FCU for matches between the two clubs in Round 1, Round 10, and the final of the Mongolian Cup in 2017.
Also adding to City's need for a goalkeeper is departure of last year's #1 Italian Mauro Boerchio who recently signed for Maziya S&RC of the first division of the Maldives for the 2018 season. Boerchio was first in the Premier League with a save percentage of 81.3%.
Another option could be capped national team goalkeeper Amarbayasgalan Saikhanchuluun who was bought from Khangarid FC in November 2017.
