Eisuke Mohri Leaves Athletic 220 FC for Laotian Champions
Athletic 220 FC and Laotian news outlets announced yesterday that Japanese defender Eisuke Mohri will not return to the Mongolian club next season and has signed for 2017 Lao Premier League champions Lao Toyota FC.
Reports indicate that the player left the club following the conclusion of the 2017 Mongolian Premier League season and returned to Japan before joining his new club for a month-long trial.
At the age of 23, Mohri signed for Athletic 220 FC in April 2017 prior to the 2017 season, a season in which the MPL debutantes were the surprise bronze medalists. He was also part of the team made up of foreign players in the Premier League that lost 0-3 to the Mongolian national under-23 side in preparation for AFC Under-23 Championship qualification.
In 2016 he served as a coach for the Cambodia Tiger Football School in Cambodia. He previously also had experience in Thailand. According to the player, it was not until his year in Cambodia that he became serious about becoming a professional footballer.
Lao Toyota FC has a short but successful history, with investment from Toyota of Laos. In its four seasons since joining the Premier League in 2014, the club has won the league championship twice and finished runners-up the remaining two seasons.
Mohri will also have the opportunity to compete with the club in the 2017 edition of the Mekong Club Championship, an international tournament which began in 2014 and is competed for among the best clubs from Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Lao Toyota FC was eliminated in the group stage of the 2015 tournament.
